Another Visit To Lower Howards Creek
Lower Howard’s Creek
Heritage Park and State Nature Preserve
Location: Clark County
Size: 228 acres
Directions: Lower Howards Creek
A tributary to the Kentucky River, Lower Howard’s Creek flows through a deep, twisting gorge.
I love this place and it never gets old. Hiking, exploring, and wading in this area are the best during any season. I personally enjoy early spring and fall.
Today I took a friend and “interest”.
I took a drive in my Subaru down the winding Athens Boonesboro Rd and stopped shy of the trailhead behind Hall’s On The River.
This isn’t the “official” entrance to the reserve but it’s preferred for the route I enjoy the most.
Once you traverse the gravel road up to an archaic picnic area with old wooden benches and picnic tables and hang left you’re led to another gravel road that leads down down down. At the bottom you can stay straight and walk a narrow trail to a waterfall.
You can see some of this waterfall on Lower Howard’s with Mr. Kensho and Lower Howard’s Creek Spring is Coming.
I’ve heard there are others but I have yet to completely explore the whole area.
Here’s a map showing our entrance and the “official” trail head.
