A Few Words & A Sister Poem

A Few Words & A Sister Poem

I love my sister. I only have one and I didn’t choose to be her brother but I wouldn’t change anything about that and I know she wouldn’t either. Of course now that were adults we can say so but it wasn’t always like this.
My sister and I have fought with each other over who will do the dishes and even who gets the girl. We’ve said the nastiest things about each other to other people and spread awful rumors. We’ve stolen from each other and spit in each others face. We’ve done things that would otherwise be unthinkable to other families but it’s what we did. We weren’t always the nicest to each other is what I’m saying. We both found jealousy and spitefulness to be the manifestation of our emotional state. We both experienced the same external traumas growing up.

But we grew up.

We no longer act as those children, that brother and sister. We don’t hold each other to these things that were so mean spirited and hurtful because we’ve faced our mistakes from that time and decided it was better to accept each other and love ourselves regardless the shame we wallowed in. We learned to forgive each other even when at times it was hard to forget. We leveled the playing field and decided that while all is fair in love and war we wanted love more than war.
As adults we face many different challenges than in those days, namely adulthood. We have both come to terms with our predisposition and live our daily lives hoping and praying we make it another day. Others may look and see brokenness and darkness but they are not seeing with open eyes for if they were it would be evident that without these conditions there would be nothing to fix and no reason for the presence of light.

Brokenness is more beautiful fixed

Illumination can only be seen in darkness

Illumination can only be seen in darkness

Here’s a short poem I stumbled across.  I don’t feel like I could have said it any better.

What Is A Sister?

A sister is someone special to me.
A sister is someone to fight with.
A sister is someone to cry with.
A sister can sometimes understand you better than anyone else can.
A sister is there for you through good times and bad.
Some sisters are close.
Some are far apart.
Sometimes you might wish you could change your sister.
But if I changed just one thing about my sister it might ruin something.
Of course my sister wouldn’t be the same.
But most important it might ruin our relationship.
We are as close as we could possibly be.
Some people think a sister is just a sister.
But my sister is more than that.
She is and will always be my friend.
And my sister will always be very special to me.
Because I couldn’t picture what my life would be like without her.
